I have been disconnected from world news lately, so I am surprised to hear this, Jorgen. My father spent many years with the Danes in business and in general, this kind of move is very contrary to what I understand about the culture. It seems to me the whole world is upside down. It's also disappointing to hear that the Danish government acquiesced to a military presence there. So many are acting out of fear, sadly.

Fear, indeed. COVID was the dress rehearsal, and now comes all the other fears on top of each other, which is too much for a young leader of a small country. Threats from all sides, neither enemies nor allies can be trusted anymore – the easy way is to give up and just panic.

With an open invitation to the USA to send soldiers whenever they want, I think that Denmark has played Greenland off their hands – as a start. Probably the government knows that and have felt that they had no other option. Maybe hoping that they could be allowed to keep the rest of the kingdom? Usually it is something with promised top positions in NATO or similar, but not with this US president, that's for sure.

Now a direct flight route has opened between the USA and Greenland, and indeed, also one between Greenland and Aalborg, a major city in the North of Denmark. Seemingly a beauty contest between Denmark and the USA. If the USA loses this, they'll just send soldiers instead.

I appreciate not panicking as a goal or life style & I enjoyed your description of Danish life. I agree that nobody can count on America under Trump, who seems to not care about most (non rich) Americans, the EU, or anybody else.

Yes, I also like the rational style: thinking, thinking a bit more, and examining the situation, before doing something. Nothing ever gets better from rushing into it. But for some people it is not "thinking before doing", it is rather "nothing instead of something", which is a different ballgame.

Of course, the best course forward is often the one you're already on, with no need to change anything. And the best solution to a problem may be to do nothing. But in either case, it should be a deliberate, informed decision.

Trump is a monster. But with him, very many people are helping to make all of his mad and careless behavior take place. His "TV host government" seems to lack even the most basic knowledge needed to do things right, but nobody seems to care if things are right or if they are based on knowledge. And nobody knows what will happen tomorrow. Ever, with him in the lead.

I agree with you. The stupidity of Trump and his administration is only matched by their lack of concern for the people of the country and the world. A good president would be someone who wants to help the most people lead a better life, which doesn’t include taking away their health care and education or deporting immigrants who are contributing to the country in so many ways. We are all immigrants.

Yes, that's all true. A leader of a nation should serve the people, not own it.
