I generally appreciate any publication that is not primarily about monetising your Substack or gaining subscribers/followers. I like your posts because you cover a broad range of topics. I personally think many writers tend to become repetitive when they focus on just one specific niche... And I particularly like writers who are truly authentic and not selling themselves as a brand they've created...

I'll post some links to a few things I've recently enjoyed...

Thank you, I appreciate that. Repetitive writing is a bit like that same dilemma many musicians fall into: they had a hit and will spend the rest of their career trying to repeat that hit. When some of them decided that now they have done that, off to something else, their fans are complaining because they wanted more of the same.

Writers will need to do something that can be a hit, while at the same time sticking to what they normally do, and yet, develop into someone better... It's no wonder why most writers have a period, at most, with success. Not easy to know which way to go.

Authentic is probably what to survive on the long run, if only it can be accepted that there is a just as authentic development of style, topics, and, well... everything else :)

I'll take a look at the links. Thanks again!

I agree, authenticity doesn't mean stagnating. Writers should definitely grow, develop, and experiment (just like musicians). I think one can distinguish if a writer implements a different style or topic out of creative longing or if they're doing so to fit into a box just so their writing "sells". I usually lose interest when the latter is the case...

I hope you enjoy 😊

I don’t know what others are saying, but I think this is a great article. I’d love for you to keep covering topics like you have so far, because these are all things I’ve wondered about in the past—or am wondering about now.

Btw, I’ve noticed that some benchmarks I follow (including myself) stopped growing rapidly once they hit 500+ subscribers. For example, in the past month I’ve gained 19 new ones, whereas I used to average around 60.

Oh, and one more thing... people like short content. I personally think your approach is great, but maybe if you could say the same thing in just a few sentences… I don’t know, just guessing.

In the end, a person should do what they feel like doing. Maybe that’s when there’s the greatest chance for interaction to happen… But yeah, do what you feel like doing.

Thanks! I appreciate your thoughts.

Strange thing, this threshold you experience. I have seen them in many places of life, in learning, in any kind of improvement, but luckily also in any kind of disaster.

I call them plateaus, since they are some kind of platform where things are resting until the movement continues. Nobody stays at a plateau forever – they either continue moving, or give up and step down.

Either way, it means that people are changing, and their life changes with them.

I will think carefully about being more brief. It makes sense in many ways.

Yes, it could be a plateau, but it seems to happen to many people at a similar threshold. Of course, I might be wrong :) Still, the joy of creation outweighs everything else, including metrics — by a large margin :) After all, writing might be the best tool for personal development, and that alone should be more than enough.

You could be right, and I honestly believe that you are. I have seen such patterns too. I just hate to think that thought, consider what it means.

And writing definitely is a great tool for most people to move a bit further as people. Sensing and feeling is good, and more people could benefit from practicing this more, but describing the sensed and the felt, that makes your brain step in and participate as well, making your development a complete experience, rounding you as a living being.

Thats it. Btw, I wanted to restack your response, but don't know how to erase first 2 sentences. So, consider it as restacked in the parallel universe:)
