With A Little Help From My Friends

The power of (kind and wise) perspectives

It’s quite amazing how life can unfold at times!

One moment, everything is confusing and chaotic – the next, a complete understanding of both problem and solution exists, and we know what it’s all about and what to do next.

Yesterday, all my trouble seemed so close at hand

I didn’t really understand

What I should do, and where to land

-

Suddenly, everything got cleared and showed the way

By friends who didn’t want my day

To end in sorrow, and dismay

Each their path they’d show,

and it’s great

I needed that

-

What I didn’t know

they could tell,

and just like that!

Wow, wow, wow!

Yesterday, I got started on a better way

Now I’ve moved on from yesterday

And all my friends have shown the way

And I moved on from yesterday....

Life sometimes surprises, and often, it can be difficult to fully grasp at the moment what actually happened – but after a bit of thinking, puzzling the pieces together, and seeing the big picture assembled for the first time, that feeling of amazement can appear.

What exactly happened yesterday?

I asked a question – a poll – because I was a bit lost. Didn’t know how to move on. And after a few moments, three great people - real friends - had all understood that I needed empathy and perspectives, reinforcement of memories, and a new goal – and they gave me that!

One virtually asked the question “haven’t we been here before?” - which we had, and we had philosophized about it and developed some fun and comforting theories about what we could do. He reminded me that we already had good memories about this topic.

The other saw what I was feeling and offered me agreement and also a hint to something in it all being not that bad - some hidden perspectives that would make me understand that there was something good in it all, if I just gave it a thought.

And the third knew that when losing track of, or the inspiration for, one goal, another may be what’s needed – “start envisioning a solution on this, bigger goal with more perspectives!”, was the general idea. It dragged me out of the confusion and into a constructive mode, suitable for an engineer at heart.

And there I was – suddenly, all my trouble seemed so far away. Yesterday became the first day of the future!

And I understood that I have at least three good friends who know exactly what I need to hear and how to back me up. Leading to some ideas that I now work with, which will become a room in which my worries can find a wall to hang on, so I don’t need to carry them around, and a window to see perspectives through, allowing me to keep elaborating on the new project.

I didn’t expect that to happen – now my life has been lifted a couple of floors, bringing me the overview that I needed. All of a sudden, on an otherwise ordinary Wednesday evening.
