Hi Jorgen, just visiting from Medium and a new subscriber here on your Substack.

Thanks for writing about the gibberish!

I saw some of the cost numbers for the latest LLMs, such as “o3” and it’s getting so expensive to run, the subscription cost will likely keep rising to the point that most folks won’t be able to afford to upgrade.

There are costs to cover, expensive managers to give salary to, and investors who want to 10x their money.

So, the most likely is an upcoming economical crisis for the company, leading to it being taken over by some other company, a richer one. This could be Microsoft, as Google has invested vastly themselves and probably don’t see the need for more; Apple being slow and limited interested in the field. But a dark horse could appear, such as Oracle - they need to up their image with some media stunt to not be forgotten.

No matter what happens, we will get the AI generators everywhere, if we want them or not, and we will pay for them as part of other products and services, or with our data.

Or how about adwords and product placement in the texts and images generated? It will come!

Soon, the world will not only be full of gibberish, it will also be a labyrinth of paid and stolen contents, none or not much of it being what we asked for in our prompts.

This is the same thing we faced when the Internet became a thing, and we were all warned not to copy-paste without proofreading, except now it's not only being used by lazy high schoolers. I loved what you said about dyslexia. My husband is dyslexic, and for grammar purposes, he might seem unfit or even not so smart, but I swear he's super smart. I like that technology can help people like him, but, of course, we can't rely on AI to think for us.

Thanks. Of course, people's intelligence cannot be determined out of their writing. There are so many other things in play as well – plus, actually, the intelligence of the reader ;)

We definitely shouldn't let AI do the thinking, because – it isn't. It looks like it is, but it is only an illusion. We have to provide that human aspect ourselves.
