My mom, who is one of the most awesome old ladies I know (yeah, she's my mom, but for real, she knows more about technology than I do. She's pretty awesome), always reminds me of this: that special dress? Wear it. The good china? Use it. We don't know what the future holds so we can only live in the now. And I really enjoyed your take on imaginary friends. I've always felt like the odd one out because I have way too vivid of an imagination, but our inner lives are sometimes just as real as real life.
Your mother truly is awesome! :) Too many things loose their value over time - the value they had when you didn't use them but wanted to keep them for later. That is true for a lot more than fresh food. But we ourselves also change - perhaps into some who cannot get the value out of the things later. In any case, whatever joy you can have of life now will remain with you as a good memory.
The imaginary friends are much more common than many people would know of - I hear about them regularly from people at all ages. I am not sure if they are connected by concept ghosts, fairies and other traditional fantasy beings, but there are arguments for everything that people can imagine that it is real. And my own "killer argument" is that your thoughts are part of you - your imagination is part of your thoughts - you are real - you consist of the same kind of atoms as everything else in the universe - so you are as important as anything in the universe - your imagination is, hence, real and as important as anything.
Let's do like Maria and keep following our thoughts, hunches, surprising ideas - because they are out of that important part of us that is our imagination. And let's do it now.
Nice story, Jorgen! The human mind is an amazing thing. We can "give life" to things that are not alive in our need to feel connected. We can enjoy the lives of characters about whom we write. We can be fond of old teddy bears hanging around, or even feel we know people we see on TV or that we pass on the street every day. Most importantly, we can live in the moment with our friends and family, through good and bad, and that is what makes us special.💙Anneliese
Thank you! These are beautiful thoughts, and yes, we can! The world becomes so much bigger if we allow ourselves to trust our imagination and follow our intuition - and enjoy what exists in us and around us, right now.
